Celebrating Sustainability and Australian-Made Excellence

In today’s design landscape, understanding who makes our products, where they’re made, and how materials are sourced is more important than ever. Ethical production and environmental responsibility, locally made are no longer fringe ideals, they’re shaping the future of how we live, build, and consume.

With that in mind, our editorial team set out to celebrate the makers and brands who lead with integrity: those with a bold social conscience, a commitment to sustainability, and a deep connection to Country. These are the creators shaping a more thoughtful, beautifully responsible future, one that’s proudly made in Australia.

We’ve curated a selection of timeless, Australian-made designs that place sustainability at their core.

Tait : Crafting with Purpose in Melbourne

Melbourne-based Tait has long been a leader in sustainable Australian furniture design. With deep roots in local manufacturing, every Tait piece is imagined, prototyped, and built by skilled craftspeople in their Melbourne factory. Sustainability isn’t a buzzword, it’s embedded into every stage of their process, from materials sourcing to product longevity. They’re committed to full transparency and continuous improvement, producing durable designs that feel both current and timeless. One of our favourites is the Voom Lounger by Adam Goodrum, a sculptural piece that blends softness, modularity, and versatility in a form built to last.

Zuster — Handmade Luxury from Melbourne

Each piece by Zuster is crafted by hand in their Melbourne workshops, where design and craftsmanship come together under one roof. With four specialised studios : furniture, upholstery, chairs, and bathroom cabinetry Zuster produces made-to-order pieces defined by elegance, detail, and timeless function.

Zuster’s approach is deeply personal. Their team of craftspeople works on one piece at a time, taking it from raw timber to final detailing. One piece we like is the Sapphire Swivel Armchair, designed and handcrafted using Australian hardwood, it's a seamless blend of sculptural form and everyday comfort and it is featured at the Alba Thermal Springs.

Celebrating Indigenous Art

Last year, during a visit to the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT), we attended the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA), a powerful showcase of emerging and established Indigenous artists.

There, we discovered a striking piece by Allan Namaniyuo (Maningrida Country) but we were especially drawn to a vibrant work titled Ngayuku Ngura by Muna Kulyuru. “I paint my mother’s story,” she says, “I pass down the stories about women dancing around the fire, where my mother was born.” Her use of colour and movement is a celebration of Country, filled with energy, memory, and deep cultural knowledge. She was a Wynne Prize Finalist.
